| | tired | ] | Had a lovely Thanksgiving in Chambana. Drove down in the mucky weather Thursday, had too much food, somehow managed 10K steps, hugged everyone, ate too much food, slept?, gamed, ate too much food...
it was awesome. :)
Today there was a trip to the two gaming stores in Chambana, along with the hippie cheese shop, and a quick stop at a booze shop (picked up a bottle of dry apple cider, and a bottle that claims to be dry pear cider...we'll see). Stayed just long for the cheese course, and then I drove back home.
I also managed to purchase some hippie soap for the coworker-gifts. (I'm knitting soap cozies out of 100% free-range cotton, and then some out of cotton/hemp. Each coworker in the area gets two cozies and some hippie soap.) That's it for trips to the mall. Ugh. I even waited until 8, but that wasn't late enough as it turns out.
Anyway. Tired now. Sleep now. |

| Food: need recipe... |
[Nov. 26th, 2009|11:42 am] |
Susan swears up and down that someone on he friends-list on LiveJournal (which is a subset of mine, basically) posted a good recipe for christmas cookies and we've been going nuts trying to find it.
Mere and I are VERY fond of speculaas and kruidnoten; they are ginger cookies that are family pass-downs, and normally, I just buy a sack of kruidnoten (NOT the Frisian style) and speculaas at a store or online; Susan said that she wanted to make some, so I have been frantically digging around for a recipe. (note: my family background is 'lotharingian', but a lot of my food stuff interests come from the Netherlands and the Wesphalian area of Germany.
If anyone out there has a good recipe for these or had originally posted this recipe that Susan remembers being up in the last couple of months, please let me know. Thanks!
Best examples I've come up with so far: http://www.kayotic.nl/blog/?p=5803 http://www.kayotic.nl/blog/?p=5698
And no, there's no existing family recipe around or anyone alive left to ask. *sigh* |

| | grateful | ] | It's that time of year again... The ritual gathering of the tribe and animal sacrifice...
And while I've said it before, my mushiness is once again forgiven because on this day it is not only expected, but demanded!
Whether our contact is limited to a few social pleasantries exchanged on here, or we hang out in person regularly, or anywhere in-between... I am thankful for YOU.
Now get off of your computer and go have a Happy Thanksgiving!

| Happy Thanksgiving!! |
[Nov. 26th, 2009|07:45 am] |
I'll be leaving for Chambana soon. Just need to throw some things into an overnight bag, and put the yarn in the car, and I'm ready to go.
I'm dropping off a rather embarrassingly large amount of yarn for the Lincoln Correctional Center on Friday. I admit that I added more as I was looking for some hippie yarn the other day. It's not ALL from me, so that's okay.
Being sick on Monday threw me off my steps this week. I'm feeling back to normal today, so I'm going to try for 10K over the weekend and not beat myself up too badly if I don't make it. I bought some dress pants two months ago that were too long and one of my colleagues at work is a seamstress so she shortened them for me and I got to wear one of them yesterday. This was the first time I've ever worn this pair of pants and they are comically too big. I'd be upset if they hadn't been on ultra-clearance. :)
Anyway.
Time to get ready to go. |

| Food: Zut alors! |

Just the thing for your Thanksgiving feast: White Castle Hamburger stuffing to go with your turkey. Mange! Vite, vite!
Yes, I’d use it for fun if we were having a weird-food-party this New Years Eve. Which, unfortunately, we won’t. (Mere and I like White Castle; its one of the odd tastes that I got from my Dad.) |

| Google Wave invites |
[Nov. 25th, 2009|02:39 pm] |

I got my first set of Google Wave invites the other day and just sent off the last of my first eight earlier today. Google has since refilled my invite bucket, and I have seven up for grabs. Who wants one? |

So I finally watched this week's Heroes, and I have a few things to say:
( Spoilers, in case anyone cares about Heroes spoilers anymore. )
In closing, I would like to officially pitch my idea for making Heroes awesome again:
One's a former super secret agent man tasked with bagging and tagging supers. One's a serial killer drunk on power and totally off his nut. Together, they fight crime!
That's right. HRG and Sylar in a buddy pseudo-cop show where they run around dealing with superpowered crime. Peter can stay on as their medic or something because he's pretty. Claire gets reduced to a guest role because Claire is only ever any good as a character when she's interacting with HRG. Hiro can be a recurring character brought in on occasion when they need help of the time-traveling sort. But only if he's samurai Hiro and not lameass Hiro. Mama Petrelli can be their version of Bosley from Charlie's Angels.
Tell me you wouldn't watch the shit out of that show. You know you would. |
